Bring Your Own Device!

A wireless router combines the functionality of a router with the functionality of a Wireless Access Point (WAP). The router establishes an Internet connection within the home by connecting to the Ethernet jack used to provide service. The WAP then broadcasts a wireless (or Wi-Fi) signal that allows devices like laptops, smartphones or tablets to connect to the Internet wirelessly.

Your wireless router should be chosen to fit both your living space and the chosen plan. Please be sure that your wireless router is not a modem/router combo as they will likely be incompatible with GiGstreem’s service. For the best experience, we encourage you to use a dual or tri-band router featuring the latest Wi-Fi generation.

Yes, you may purchase a wireless router directly from GiGstreem. Please contact us for more information.

To install your wireless router, follow these easy steps:

  1. Place your wireless router in a spot with some open space to avoid disruption.
  2. Connect the port on the wireless router labelled “WAN” or “Internet” to the Ethernet jack using a standard Ethernet cord.
  3. Plug in the power cord and wait 5 minutes to give your wireless router enough time to connect to the Internet.
  4. Use the provided name and password (often found on the bottom of the wireless router and on the box it was sold in) to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

We recommend placing your wireless router in a central, unobstructed location to ensure a strong signal throughout the home. If possible, avoid placing your wireless router in a closet, behind other electronics, or in a place where it would have to penetrate concrete walls.
